Blue is for Nightmares Stolarz Series Laurie Faria Stolarz Books

Thanks to receiving a copy of Emlyn Chand's Farsighted, I am now on a Young Adult fiction reading kick. Now that I've seen that it's not all like Twilight and that most YA fiction is actually as good (if not better) than so-called adult fiction, I've been looking for new series to get started on. And unfortunately, for me, I now have way too many books on my "Must Read" list.

Blue is for Nightmares was a daily deal on Amazon (I subscribe to that mailing list) and was offered for just .99. I read the novel's description and it sounded interesting enough. It's about a private school girl, a Wiccan, and her visions that involve the kidnapping and potential death of her roommate. It's both murder mystery and paranormal and isn't laced with the kind of teen romance stuff that usually turns me off from reading this genre.

The protagonist, Stacy, is not a normal girl. She has inherited her Wiccan abilities from her grandmother and has begun having dreams that are so intense they literally having her wetting the bed. At 16, this is obviously humiliating, but she also knows she needs to do whatever she can to save her roommate, Drea. I really liked Stacy, mostly because she was flawed, but also because the novel is written in her voice and from her perspective.

I also liked the mystery surrounding who is responsible for the harassment of Drea, as well as her future kidnapper. And I have to be honest, it was not who I expected. I won't spoil it, however, for the sake of those of you who have not read this book.

Blue is for Nightmares Stolarz Series Laurie Faria Stolarz Books Reviews

I saw this book at Borders and was captivated by the mysterious awesome cover(I love the texture of it!), but that wasn't enough. I came to to check the reviews and decided to buy it; and wasn't dissapointed. This is a thriller that's hard to put down. I have to confess, at times I did put it down, but just because I was too scared and my reading lamp wasn't enough, I HAD to get up from bed and turn on the lights. I don't know, maybe I'm too easy to scare. The point is if you love magic, spells, witches, being scared and a love triangle, then you have to read this book.
Phenomenal book. This is the second time I've read it through. Well worth it.
If you have the extra cash, do yourself a favor and pick this book up for your library, physical or digital
I just finished reading Blue is for Nightmares and was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad book. But I didn't see any of the promise I saw while reading her Touch Series.
I felt that it read more like a spell book than a drama. She spent too much time on step-by-stepping through the spells and not enough time on setting up the book. Didn't give you much of a feeling for the characters, what they were thinking, who they really were. And the descriptions kept coming piece-meal through the book so your thinks kept changing in my mind. She jumped into the story without enough set up, then kinda rushed the ending (making the "romance" part seem like a joke).
With that being said, I really did like the Touch Series so I will continue on to the next book with the hopes that she was just "honing her craft" with this one. I have faith the series will get better.

Blue is for Nightmares is one of the earliest YA books I've read and I was hooked from the start to finish!

This fast-paced mystery will leave you on the edge of your seat the entire time. And the unexpected twists?? Well, those will throw you for a loop! Especially when considering that everyone's a suspect, including those you least expect...

There are so many things I loved about this book, the main one being the Wiccan elements strewn throughout the book. It made for a really original story that didn't deal with hocus-pocus, but real, earth-based, magic.

Stolarz also has a knack for making you relate and feel for these characters. Most of which, despite their loud/rough/Queen B exteriors (I'm talking about you, Drea!), will surprise you...in a smile from ear to ear sort of way.

Blue is for Nightmares is a great start to a really great and original series. It's definitely one of my most cherished books!

We go way back.
I wasn't sure of this book when I started it. This is a tale of a teenage witch in a boarding/private school who is having nightmares and wetting her bed. My first impression was this is a strange and kind of gross book. However, after only 2 chapters I was hooked.

Stacey is a witch, a gift passed down from several generations of her family. She is having nightmares about someone killing her best friend Drea. She's also madly in love with Drea's childhood friend who she has dated off and on for most of her life. Drea has a secret admirer who calls her at all hours, she doesn't know his name, won't talk about what they converse about and she thinks it's fun. However, it soon turns into a stalker situation, the mysterious caller, who Drea has no name for, is getting jealous. On of the other girls at school is also being stalked by the same guy. Stacey teams up with Drea and Amber to solve the mystery before someone dies. For Stacey this is nothing new. She had nightmares about someone else in her life, just as now, and they came true; someone died.

This book is extremely hard to put down. You fly through the pages with a terrible need to know who the stalker is and what's going to happen next. I never even came close to guessing who the mysterious caller/stalker was until the time was right. I was a bit shocked to find out who it was. My only hint to you is, it is someone the girls know.

This book does contain some language but is not riddled with it. There are sex scenes, just teenage hormones. It's very good and I can't wait to read the following books. I recommend this book to adults and teens alike. If you like a good mystery that keeps you wanting more, this is the book for you.
